Lighting the Way Ahead Together
At TenneT, we are committed 24/7, 365 days a year, to ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of electricity, now and in the future. This is the world of TenneT. As a leading European grid operator, we design, build, maintain, and operate the high-voltage grid in the Netherlands and large parts of Germany, playing a key role in the energy transition. With 23,500 kilometers of high-voltage connections on land and at sea, and almost 5,000 employees, we ensure the daily power supply to more than 42 million end-users. TenneT has many innovative projects planned for now and the coming years, and we are always looking for driven professionals.

For TenneT, we are looking for a:
Technical Specialist - Seabed Surveys & UXO Clearance Operations

Your Contribution to TenneT:
As a Technical Specialist, you will be the expert in seabed surveys and UXO (explosive ordnance) clearance operations. You will focus on UXO and debris surveys, identification, and clearance activities, as well as overseeing geophysical and geotechnical seabed surveys for offshore wind projects. Your expertise will support offshore cable and platform installation projects within TenneT’s 2GW program. You will coordinate closely with project teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the success of these projects.

Challenge of the role: when conducting seabed scanning to collect geophysical data, the process involves several critical steps:
1.Seabed Scanning & Data Acquisition: You will utilize techniques like magnetic surveys with gradiometers to scan the seabed for potential hazards such as UXO (Unexploded Ordnance) or debris. This stage requires a high level of technical skill to ensure accurate and comprehensive data collection from the seafloor.
2. Data Processing: Once the seabed scan is complete, the next step is processing the acquired data. This involves applying sophisticated geophysical models and software tools (such as GIS, ArcGIS, and potentially AutoCAD) to refine and clean the data, allowing for clear identification of any anomalies or potential hazards on the seabed.
3. Quality Assurance & Program Development: A key part of the challenge is creating a quality assurance program. This ensures the data meets the required standards and that any anomalies are accurately identified and flagged for further analysis. The integrity of this data is critical as it will inform subsequent decision-making processes regarding clearance operations.
4. Developing the Clearance Program: Based on the processed data, you will then develop a clearance program. This program specifies the steps necessary to remove any UXO or debris that could obstruct the installation of cables and platforms. This involves a detailed understanding of safety procedures, technical feasibility, and coordination with other stakeholders (such as the project management teams, UXO clearance specialists, and offshore installation teams).

The combination of scanning,
data interpretation, and clearance program development forms a critical part of the offshore survey process. It is essential to ensure that all potential hazards are identified and addressed before major construction activities (like cable installation) begin. This role requires both technical expertise in geophysics and strong project management skills to oversee these complex operations efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:
• Technical Expertise in UXO and Seabed Surveys:
- Lead UXO and debris surveys, focusing on acquiring magnetic data, processing, interpreting, and identifying targets to define clearance programs.
- Conduct geophysical and geotechnical seabed surveys, ensuring high-quality data collection and reporting for offshore wind installations.
• Data Quality & Project Documentation:
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of accurate project documentation.
- Ensure high data quality and compliance with project specifications, adjusting plans as necessary throughout all project phases.
• Collaboration & Coordination:
- Collaborate with project management, offshore teams, and contractors to ensure smooth operations.
- Brief client representatives and coordinate on-site activities, ensuring proper execution of tasks.
- Work closely with technical teams to ensure accurate project deliverables.
• Survey Program Optimization:
- Support the optimization of survey programs and processes.
- Provide input for the preparation of seabed data required for offshore cable and platform installations.
• Tendering & Contracting Support:
- Assist in tendering and contracting processes for offshore surveys, UXO clearance, and debris management.
- Provide technical support and advice during contract negotiations.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
• You have a university degree (Master's/Bachelor's) in Geophysics, Surveying, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• You have significant experience in geophysical offshore surveys, particularly magnetic surveys using gradiometers.
• You have experience in managing and interpreting survey data for offshore projects.
• You are proficient with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS), and AutoCAD is a plus.
• You have expertise in data processing, interpretation, and reporting.
• You are highly independent, take initiative, and possess strong problem-solving skills.
• You can work autonomously, take ownership of tasks, and deliver solutions without excessive consultancy.
• You are a strong team player and communicator, able to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
• You are fluent in English; proficiency in Dutch is a strong advantage (or you are willing to learn).
• You are flexible and willing to adapt to changing project conditions and requirements.
• You have excellent communication and organizational skills, with a focus on teamwork and project success.

Additional information:
• Suppliers of candidates must be aware of the applicable labor regulations and the TenneT collective labor agreement (CAO). This position falls under scale 9 of the TenneT CAO.
• Minimum of 32 hours, maximum of 40 hours per week. Flexibility in working hours is required. For example, candidates can request a preferred day off, but TenneT will decide the actual free day based on project needs.
• Office day every Monday at Rijnpoort. Depending on the project, there may be additional office days at various project locations. Flexibility regarding office days is important.
• The role is classified as a Scale 9 position, with compensation based on experience.
• One online interview will be conducted.
• Fluent English is required. Proficiency in Dutch, or a willingness to learn, is a strong advantage.
• We are seeking senior-level candidates who can propose and implement solutions. This role is for those who are hands-on and action-oriented, not those focused on consultancy.
• This role requires flexibility with working days, as the project’s needs may require you to be present in the office on days that are not designated.
• 1st February 2025.
• The contract is for 24 months, with the potential for an additional 12-month extension.
