The business unit Large Projects Offshore Netherlands (LON) connects, via innovative HVDC (high voltage direct current) platforms and converter stations, windfarms at the Northsea to the grid on the mainland. An enormous amount of renewable energy has to be connected within the next 10 years. Not only connections to the grid near the coast, but even deeper inland grid connection systems will be planned.
Our challenge:
Connecting up to 35GW of offshore wind energy in 2035 is a challenging task for TenneT as the designated Transmission System Operator (both onshore and offshore) in the Netherlands. To meet this challenge TenneT has developed the 2GW-Program within LON. With cutting edge technology like 525kV HVDC TenneT is leading the offshore development. The department of Engineering & Services within LON provides the necessary technological expertise to the 2GW-Program and the various projects.
Your contribution to TenneT:
You will support our 2GW HVDC grid expansion program with your technical expertise. In different regions in the Netherlands multiple 2GW grid connection systems will be build, together with our consortia.
Your main tasks and responsibilities are:
• Acting as SPoC on all Telecommunications related topics towards the offshore projects that have to operationalize and implement TenneT’s requirements, and as interface towards internal stakeholders that develop and maintain these requirements
• Advising and supporting the offshore projects and the various projects with a successful implementation the design by contributing in risk assessments and finding suitable adequate solutions that meet TenneT's requirements
• Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS) and network infrastructure (copper, fiber optics, radio, and office IT).
• Digital and analog communication systems with an emphasis on offshore ancillary systems (PAGA, CCTV, VHF radio, IPTV and VoIP).
• Finding and reporting gaps in current TenneT requirements both from an implementation perspective and from an constantly changing risk perspective. And aligning with internal stakeholders the improvements that are needed for this.
Hands-on support during Construction and Installation
• Overseeing testing, inspection, and quality control during construction, installation and commissioning.
• Ensuring all systems meet relevant standards and specifications (IEC, cybersecurity frameworks).
• Able to implement network automation systems and verification methods.
• Involving stakeholders to align systems with operational needs and safety regulations.
• Support and guide local teams ensuring quality assurance for relevant mechanical installations.

Your profile and background:
• Degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of LAN communication technologies (VLAN, VRF) and network components (routers, switches, firewalls).
• In-depth knowledge of industrial communication protocols (ModBus TCP, ProfiNet, EtherCAT, OPC) and general network protocols (TCP/IP).
• Knowledge of WAN communication technologies (MPLS).
• Familiarity with telecontrol protocols (IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 61850).
• Cybersecurity awareness (IEC 62443, NIS2, CRA, ISO 27000).
• Knowledge of (extra-)high-voltage energy transfer systems.
• Hands-on experience with the installation and integration of telecommunications cabinets, including power distribution, cabling, and environmental factors.
• Marine experience is a great advantage, especially for understanding offshore operational environments, shipboard installations and marine communication systems.
Soft skills
• Good verbal and written communication skills in both Dutch and English.
• Strong interpersonal skills, team spirit and communication skills.
• Experience with MS Office applications for documentation and communication tasks.
• You have a high degree of independence, initiative and assertiveness.
Remainder:
• VOG must be received before a candidate can start; AIVD-B screening also applies.
• A Pre Employment Screening (PES) is carried out as standard upon commencement of employment;
• Location: Arnhem Rijnpoort - 2 x per week at the office (Monday and Tuesday are fixed days) and the rest hybrid.
• Great willingness and flexibility to travel to project locations. Driving license is therefore essential.
• Experience with MS Office applications for documentation and communication tasks.
• Rate depends on the knowledge and skills of a candidate.
Additional information:
• Suppliers of candidates must be aware of the applicable laws and regulations in the field of employment conditions and the (TenneT) collective labor agreement. This commitment falls within scale 8 of the TenneT collective labor agreement;
